Sugar cubes
I've noticed that Belgian cafes and restaurants often serve coffee accompanied by paper wrapped sugar cubes, rather than providing a sugar bowl or server for the table. This surprises me as sugar cubes seem to have become far less common over the last 20 years or so. I have distinct memories of using them as building blocks when I was a small child, and of stealing them to feed to a horse while on holiday in Scotland.
I expect they became less popular as they take longer to dissolve than regular sugar and this means your espresso could be cold by the time you drink it.
On the other hand, if there are two people and two cups of coffee you can have races.
