Paying attention reduces nasty niffs
My fridge isn't working. The freezer compartment keeps things well frozen but the main refrigeration compartment doesn't do anything. This is mildly annoying as it means I cannot chill drinks but not a big problem as Del Haize have a large supermarket right next door to my apartment building.
Until it is replaced I will need to pay closer attention to what I store in the fridge. Last Wednesday I bought a quart of milk in a plastic bottle and stored it -unopened- in the fridge. I left for London very early on Friday and returned late on Sunday. The milk looked like this:
and smelled rather nasty. It had leaked a little in the fridge, so I emptied the whey and left the curds in the bottle. This morning I took the bottle down to the recycling containers in the basement and eventually decided that it should go into the plastic recycling rather than the food recycling bin. I was not willing to open it up and separate the contents from the packaging.
